Lorinda Fraser (settler-Canadian, she/her) was initially hired by the BC Archives as an auxiliary reference archivist in 2019. In 2022, she permanently joined the team as a government records archivist. She is primarily responsible for processing court records and conducting privacy reviews to ensure that records are made accessible when possible, while protecting the privacy of individuals under provincial and federal legislation.
During a work placement at the University of Glasgow Archives, Lorinda was able to engage with a vast range of records and media types. There she developed a deeper appreciation of the social contexts that archives can provide, which was a natural extension of her art history interests and training. Her years of reference experience provided an immersive opportunity to work with the extensive array of records held by the BC Archives, providing invaluable insight into the needs of researchers of all abilities and informing her current arrangement and description projects.
